I bought a couple of perfume oils from The Starshine Company last week, and they came in the mail today. Allow me to do a little review! Disclaimer: I know nothing about proper perfume language.

Cassis - I bought this because I LOVE black berries, however on my skin the scent is very heady and overpowering and not in a particularly good way. Typically I’m drawn to savoury/ “oriental” (ugh) scents and Cassis is sickly sweet. I thought this perfume would be a bit more acidic.. you know when berries aren’t very ripe? I think that’s my favourite kind of berry smell, and so I assumed this perfume would be similar. Unfortunately it gives me a headache.

Basil, Lime and Sage - I’m obsessed with basil. When I’m buying fruit and veges I need to stop and inhale the basil deeply, it’s just so delicious! For a few months I’ve been wondering if such a thing as basil perfume exists, and I found that it does but I didn’t have a whole lot of money to spend so when I found the Starshine Company’s perfume I thought I’d give it a go. USD$6 is pretty reasonable! This particular scent isn’t very basily, but that’s ok, it’s definitely my kind of perfume. It’s unassuming, subtle and earthy.

I put the Cassis on my left wrist, and the Basil, Lime & Sage on my right, so right now the Cassis is totally drowning everything out but I think the Basil, Lime & Sage is much better suited for my skin.

The labeling on these roll-on bottles needs addressing because even though the bottles were taped and sealed in a zip lock bag, a lot leaked and lifted the ink off the stickers. If you buy a few of these scents and the labels rub off it means you’re going to have trouble telling them all apart at a glance.
