This is the front page of the Mercury today. Yeh it’s totally cute that they’ve reappropriated the image of the Redheads matchbox packaging by superimposing a cartoonised version of our new Prime Minister’s face on it. Not.
I don’t buy that it’s just a joke. A woman’s image is used to sell things, to make them “more appealing” to males and in turn females, who are taught to desire the things that will make them more appealing to males. It’s totally 101. My reading of this macro (it was floating around the internet yesterday) is that Gillard is just the lady-packaging to sell the Labor government to the people. I find that kind of offensive, considering that if it were true it’s a huge insult to such an accomplished politician.
