- Always ride a bike that fits your height. The top tube (the bar that runs along the top of the bike) should never be touching your junk when you stand over it. It also shouldn’t be too short, if you can sit in the seat and your feet touch the ground you will not be fully extending your legs when you pedal and it can do damage to your knees over time.
- Bike shorts or leggings are a god send for fatties on bikes. It might be hard to find actual bike shorts in larger sizes in a bike store, but the internet is wonderful :) Trust me, they will save your legs and beautiful thighs from too much chaffing.
- Safety - Fat or not, always use lights when you ride at night! Flashing red in the rear. Normal light in front.
- Look out for cars, pretend like they can’t see you (chances are, no matter how fat you are, they can’t see you because you are not another vehicle) and bike accordingly, BE CAUTIOUS.
- If you ride in the road (be it in the bike lane or not), take the lane. Assert yourself in the road as much as possible.
- Ride in groups whenever you can, not only is it more fun that way, you always got another biker to back you up.
- Finally, don’t let people who drive past and yell at you get the better of you. I get yelled at every single time I ride my bike in the road. “hey fattie” or “get your fat ass off that bike and outta the road” don’t bother me anymore, because they will be shelling out tons of cash at the pump later! I usually respond with my middle finger and a yell of my own “FATTIE PRIDE”.
Good luck, and happy biking!!!!
I REALLY REALLY WANT A BIKE *sob*
And a rec for bike shorts for fatty fats - Aerotech Designs have awesome bike shorts, padded and unpadded. Nick and I each bought a pair for exercising and they’re great. I’m wearing mine now :D
