I cannot stand the show. Not really for political reasons, but because of the constant fake-sounding-singing. I’ve watched clips and half of episodes, but my reaction has never been anything other than “ew, ugh, ignorant, AHH MY EARS.” I’m a great fan of pop music, of Autotuned music even, but there is something just excessive about the voices of people on the show.
But critique/reviews of Glee? I eat that shit UP. I love reading what satah or s.e. smith or Tom and Lorenzo or Alan Sepinwall have to say about each episode. I don’t know why. I enjoy the writing and critical style of each of the (very different) writers mentioned, but don’t read everything that they write (since the one commonality b/t those folks is that they’re all quite prolific).
But whenever I see a post on Glee being linked about or in my RSS, I automatically click and read thoroughly. Maybe it’s a little bit of me loving to watch terrible stuff dissected? I don’t know. But I hate watching and love reading about Glee.
edit: changed satah’s capitalization and s.e. smith’s name
I can’t stand the production values of the songs. I was excited to see a tv show about singing when Glee first started but when they started singing I was horrified at the autotune and fake sounding voices. It’s a real disappointment because A capella groups sound amazing just by themselves. Singing in a group makes me feel incredible, like I’m soaring over clouds. It’s about working together and lending your voice to building something beautiful… a thing just made out of voices.
So yeah, I was expecting some kind of high school chorale nostalgia when I first watched Glee and I was let down. The additional ham fisted “diversity” schtick is just adding insult to injury.
