“I’m trying to do something good for myself this year… I’m trying to eradicate all metaphors and imagery of capitalism or economic exchange that exist in my language. Like, when someone tells me to ‘own my feelings’ I just get pissed off. I don’t need to OWN my feelings, I don’t need to buy them from anyone else, and they can’t be sold! I don’t need to steal them back, even! I don’t exist in a market like that.”

i’ve been confused about things like this lately. mainly around the notion that power = owning, ownership. a few people have told me that they think a lot of my personally issues stem from my lack of self-worth, and i know that a lot of that comes from feeling worthless in a capitalist society where a lot of my work is not deemed “work” or “productive” or positive in any way. so how do i come to dismantle those notions? …work in progress.
