Eeep, firstly I have to apologise about responding to the questions in my ask box so late D: Sorry about that.
Lots of fatties walk around in heels and they love it and can’t live without them but I am not one of them unfortunately :( I think a combination of factors meant that I am not a fabulous fatty in high heels including: wide feet, ankle injuries and high arches. I used to wear a lot of stilettos in the late ’90s but I fell over twice, bollocking each ankle and now I have ligament damage. Because wide width heels were basically unicorns in the ’90s (or I was too poor to buy them) I made do with ill fitting shoes. My feet hurt so much every night, but I still wore them. I eventually gave up on heels 10 years ago because I couldn’t deal with the pain anymore.
Ok so enough about me - there could be similar factors or different factors that mean you don’t feel at home in high heels. Some people I know swear that all people can walk in them, and that if you fail you’re not trying hard enough. I can’t disagree enough. If your shoes are hurting, take them off and give them to someone who can wear them comfortably. Don’t risk your foot health!
If you really really want to find some heels and your feet are wide, try Evans… I have bought a few pairs of heels from them in the last few years and I can wear them for a couple of hours without being in too much pain because they are wide/ extra wide fitting. If width isn’t your issue, you might need to go to a nice shoe store and get properly fitted. It might help, it might not. The places that properly fit you are often places that sell ridiculously expensive shoes (well, in Australia!) and even then the shoes aren’t as awesome as Irregular Choice. I bloody love those shoes but can’t ever conceive of being able to fit into them and walk comfortably!
I don’t know if that helps, but overall I just want you to know that if you can’t wear heels without feeling comfortable please don’t feel bad! Women have been trained to believe that heels = femininity and amongst all the issues in that piece of conditioning is the problem of doing damage to your body with poorly designed and fitted shoes.
Good luck and maybe other people can help too? I’ve seen videos on “how to walk properly in heels” but honestly, they’ve never helped me.
