I’ve been listening to nothing but 90’s grrrl bands today and pondering the universe, feminism and it’s modern relevance, as well as unity amongst women. [which doesn’t seem to exist]
If it’s not one thing it’s another. If you have a friend that doesn’t feel like she needs to compete with you, they’re a terrible gossip, or in love with the idea of love. I hate saying this, because it makes me feel by writing it down I have to accept the fact that it seems like most other females around me are really fucking lame. I have never been one of those girls who would always complain about how they can’t be friends with other girls, and I even had an essay in my zine condemning such behaviors; in hopes of bringing women together.
It really is starting to seem as if nearly all the girls I know are either empty or full of shit. Can’t we just get over jealousy, infatuation, competition, hatred and just work together? Even if it means getting over your body image issues, social climbing, and boyfriend for just once.
I still can’t get over the fact that I lost my best friend of three years to, “Your trying to steal my boyfriend” paranoia. It’s like a nightmare to realize that you’ve spent so much time with someone so petty and untrusting. I refuse to accept that we are doomed to hate each other so much, it’s just not natural. I feel like we are most certainly pit against each other. Who is the hottest? Who is the smartest? Who is the most popular? Because some think that whatever status we reach, we will have to reach by beating other girls down, because only a few can stand amongst the boys.
That’s nice and all but it’d be awesome if people credited images to their creators! This was taken by Kate O’Brien.
