The new GQ ad actually made me really uncomfortable for Dianna Agron and Lea Michele. It’s so fucking misogynistic how the women were nothing but sex toys in the entire shoot, and Cory Monteith was completely dressed in every single shot. There’s both sexism and misogyny here and it makes me sick.
Someone I used to know defended Richardson’s work as art. IDK if he’s actually so self aware of his privilege as a white guy with a camera that he’s using it to actually shine a light on the objectification of women.
Every photographer I know mocks GWC types for doing exactly what Richardson does. Yet this guy with camera got famous for it… is this hipster irony too smart for everyone? I think not. I feel that every person can participate in art making, so why is this low fi photographer who perpetuates the same old shit about women given the opportunity to be famous and well-reknowned when there are millions of people with point and shoot cameras in the world?
Is that the irony that makes Richardson so good? Like I said, I don’t think he’s even aware of it.
PS: I don’t even know if I’m expressing this properly. Does it make sense? I’m open to discussion. This GWC baffles me.
