I'm fat and angry

Just read a lulzworthy fb “fanpage” comment of a plus size model where everyone was slapping themselves on the back for not calling themselves fat.

That’s ok, just don’t turn your nose up at me for calling MYSELF fat. Because I, yannow, am. I’m very fat. It’s what people think when they see me, and it’s how I describe myself. Telling women they oughtn’t refer to themselves as fat is to subscribe to the dominant idea of what women’s bodies should look like: Thin or making apologies and seeking minimisation.

I write about FATSHION because that’s what I can wear. I can not slide into straight sizes, no not unless I buy three and sew them together. I don’t write about FASHION because I can not fit into it, and by writing about FATSHION I seek to highlight the scarcity of options in garments available for fat people to wear. It’s a political statement, one I am inclined to want to make, because I can’t get away with shoehorning myself into straight sizes and I’m really fucking angry about the dearth of choice I get to adorn my personal body with. I don’t give a fucking shit about what’s on the runways unless there are FATTY FAT MCFATTERSONS walking down them wearing clothes I can wear. Not just curvy “plus size” models. Actual fat people with protruding stomachs or large hips or big arms and legs.

If you want to be apolitical, that’s fine, but I don’t get that option. And don’t bother bringing the health of any fat activist into this. You ought to know better.
