one of the main characters on the detroit 187 just said “you drank my soda.”
we don’t say soda in the D.
we say pop.
get it straight, hollywood show.
It’s also a well known fact that people who say pop are much, much cooler.
I’m glad you guys think so because my friends made fun of me for saying pop ALL THE TIME. (I’m note even sure where I picked it up? I think my friends were just snobs who thought it sounded hickish.)
AAAAAAAAAH YOU TOO? I grew up in pop territory, and people make fun of me out here ALL THE TIME for it. I’ve taken to just not talking about sugary fizzy beverages if I can help it.
I once talked to an Australian (no idea where he was from, I’m sure it’s a regional thing there too) who thought it was hilarious that I said “pop” and said that they were all just “fizzy drinks” down there. Which, of course, I found hilarious (best drink phrase EVER).
I’ve always lived in Brisbane, Queensland (Australia) and refer to it as fizzy drink or soft drink but when I was a kid, EVERYTHING was Coke. It’s not like it mattered much to me back then, because Mum never let us drink soft drinks!
